dreams

I had a dream 2 days ago. My grandmother was in a hospital ,and in the end, she died. I had the same dream the next day. So, I called my house yesterday. My mother told me that my grandfather was in a hospital because he fell in the bathroom.

Some people say dreams tell you your current mental state or something important to you. In my case, I am looking for peace and I have some troubles in my life now.

It is very interesting to find out what your dreams are trying to tell you.

My Response

The letter “Tired of getting stopped,” was written by Allan Mcintyre who is a black and lives in Nagoya, Japan. He says that he is really sick of getting stopped by police to show them his “gaijin card.”

The writer uses the authority to convince the audience. He is a foreigner who lives in Japan now, and has been stopped by police many times in Japan. He says “I've been stopped in front of Takashimaya about 13 times and have lived in Japan for only six months.” He talks about the issue through his experience.

The Takashimaya is a very big department store which is in the Nagoya station. In front of Takashimaya is “The best place to meet in Nagoya” as he says. The audience must find it embarrassing to be stopped by police in front of many people. At the same time, the audience would feel sorry for what he has been through.

The letter is convincible, because the writer uses the authority to persuade his audience. The writer is a foreigner who lives in Japan and has been stopped by police many times in front of many people. His audience must feel sorry for his embarrassing experience.

Terrorism In Japan

The article“Not so welcome to Japan any longer”, by Kevin Rafferty, is about the new scheme which started in Japan from November 20. The Justice Ministry decided to take fingerprints and photographs of every foreigner visits Japan.

The justice ministry says probability of this system makes mistakes is less than 0.1%. However, this new scheme would not prevent terrorism in Japan. Terrorists are not that stupid. Terrorists can get information about the new system easily from Internet or from newspapers. What would they do if a terrorist was a boy who does not have any criminal records? I bet they just let the boy enter Japan without any questions.

I do not think taking fingerprints and pictures from foreigners who visit Japan, although this new system introduced in Japan is so accurate. I suppose terrorists are gathering at somewhere right now and thinking countermeasures against this new system

Discriminations in Japan

Every one can be discriminated by someone. They discriminate you by the historical background or your race. They discriminate you just because you are in a minority. You cannot avoid being discriminated. The article, “Views from the Street” talks about minority groups which face the worst discrimination in Japan.

The Article “Views from the Street” discuss about which minority groups face the worst discrimination in Japan. The opinions vary. Some people say Chinese and Koreans faces the worst discrimination. Some say Black people do. Yuko Furusawa, 24 years old manager and Aki Yokota, 31 years old web designer say that Handicapped people face the worst discrimination. All of their opinions are true, because Chinese, Koreans, Black people and Handicapped people are all minority groups in Japan.

According to the letter “Ebb and flow of discrimination” which is the response to the article “Views from the Street”, discrimination in Japan depends on where you live. The writer lives in Nagasaki where American people face the worst discrimination. Nagasaki is the place has many historical events. Americans are discriminated by the historical background between America and Nagasaki, Japan. As I said first, historical backgrounds is a major cause of discrimination.
Japan is one of the most unsociable countries since long time ago; therefore most of non-Japanese people can be in minority groups easily. However, I think the situation is changing. I see a lot of people in Japan from all over the world. Discrimination in Japan is being diminished day by day.

My response to letters

Two writers, Manuel Sandoval and Kevin Egan, wrote interesting responses to the article “Four marines investigated for rape.” Each writer tries to convince the audience to believe his point in different way.

Manuel Sandoval、the writer of the letter “Don’t judge marines too fast”, makes an interesting point by using his authority. He was assigned to Tachikawa Air Base once, and that is his authority. He was in a similar situation to the situation which those four marines were in. He says that the woman who got raped should have known what was going to happen, and she should have been aware of those four marines. The saying he mentioned “you can take the girl out of the bar, but you can't take the bar out of the girl” is very convincing under his authority. However, most Japanese people would disagree to his point, because his idea is very America-sided. He implies that American military are protecting Japan from other counties, so American marines can do whatever they want in Japan. He also says that America is “baby- sitting” Japan. “This idea and the word “baby-sitting” may make most of Japanese people feel being insulted.

“Disgusting outlook on women” is the letter by Kevin Egan who disagrees with Manuel Sandoval. The writer of this letter tries to convince the audience to believe by using her emotion. His idea is that four marines should be investigated no matter what they have done, because they have done a wrong thing. He says that what happened to the woman who works at the bar was not the woman's fault. It is a wrong idea that the woman should have predicted what would happen next. He also mentions that this investigation has nothing to do with the fact that US military is protecting Japan from other countries. The writer does not say that he is an expert of something or he was or he is in the Army. He has no authority. However this letter is very convincing and strong.

Both writers have great points on this issue. Both writers have strong idea and those letters are very convincing. However, most people would think that the letter "Disgusting outlook on women" by Kevin Egan, is more convincing Even though he has no authorities, the audience would think he is saying a "right thing."

Why I am in IES.

Why I am I in IES? This is the question I often think about. Why am I in IES and do a lot of homework and assignments instead of hanging out with my friends? The answer for this question is “Well, this is the way it is.”

I came to Kansai Gaikokugo University, because I did not want to go to smart and prestigious universities. I do not think the person who goes to a prestigious university is a better person than anyone else. I hate that idea. Of course, I was not smart enough is another reason. This is why I decided to go to Kansai Gaikokugo University.

When I was taking a test (TOEFL) to decide which classes I was going to be in, I never thought that I would be in IES class. I was not even sure that I wanted to be in an IES class, even though I circled “YES” for the question “Do you want to be in IES”. Since this moment, I have been so sick of my life. I was very surprised when I found out that I was in IESa, because I thought there were a lot of people who like English more than know about English more than me, since this university is famous for English major.

So now, I am in the IES class and doing my thing. I do not know how I got this way. I never hoped to be in this class before I entered this university I am in this class. What can I do now? I think I just have to do what I have to do for now.

The Wednesday

After school on Wednesday, me, Akinori, and Matsu (friends from Akinori's club) went to "Bikkuri Ramen" which is right in front of school. We had no homework or assignments that day, so we were pretty happy about it.

We stayed at Bikkuri Ramen for long time. I guess it was for an hour or more, because while were eating, our friends came into that place. We talked for long time about stupid things, but it was really fun.

After we left that place, we went to the "Seven-Eleven". We stayed there for long time We started to taking photos with matsu's cell phone, since his cell phone has a great camera.

After we get tired of taking photos with matsu's cell phone, we started to call our friends. We pretended that we were a cable guy. So when we called Bob (He is one of our friends and also my co-worker.) he got so mad about it. So after he hung up, We decided to send a text message to him with the picture of us apologizing. It was still pretty funny.

So that was my Wednesday. I had a great time with my friend, even though it was very cold outside.

Trip Trip Trip.

Last Friday, I went to "The Super Sento" in Moriguchi with my co-workers. We often go to hot springs , swimming pool or Sento After we get off work. It was one of the nicest moments.

Since we have no public transportation, we have to get there by cars or motorcycles. The lucky thing is that almost 80 % of my co-workers ride motorcycles.

We had to hurry because that sento place closes at 2:30 am and we got off work at 1:00 am. When we got there, it was almost 1:30 am. It only took us 20 minutes to get there. That was pretty amazing.

After we left the Sento, we went to eat some Chinese noodle at "Hakubadouji" in Hirakata. They have many kinds of Chinese noodles and, each of them are so tasty. Since it was one of my co-workers birthday and he knew the guy who works there we all got FREE coke and Yakimeshi!!

When I got home, it was almost 6 in the morning......

After reading "Japanese: A language in a state of flux"...

I agree with Tomoko Otake, a writer of the article “Japanese: A language in a state of flux.” In this article, she says “the other may not understand a word rooted in another language. In other words, communication is being lost — not in translation, but because of no translation”

In Japan, we can see words rooted in another language almost everywhere we go. Some people might think it is a good thing, because Japan is becoming more international. I do not disagree with this idea, since I am one who is studying English and interested in different cultures of other countries. However, I think it is great thing, if all the people understand meanings of these words fully.

When I went back to my hometown, Nagoya from Osaka during this summer vacation, I realized one thing about my grand parents. They used to read every pages of the news paper every day, and spend a lot of time watching news programs on TV. Now, they only read a couple of pages of newspapers every day, and do not watch news programs on TV that much. They say they sometimes can not understand what the newspapers say and what the TV programs are about because of those gairaigo, words rooted in another language.

I think use of these so-called loanwords is not a bad thing, if they educate us meaning of these words. However, if people are using these words to just show off, they need to stop using them immediately.

Summer Vacaation

I would say my summer vacation was pretty simple. I did not travel anywhere, except I went back to my hometown, Nagoya for a couple of times.

During the summer vacation, I was working almost every day. This might sound pathetic a little bit, but I am actually satisfied with it. However, my life style was pretty messed up. I usually go to work at 5 or 6 pm. Then I get off work at about 1 am. After that, I go hang out with my co-workers until 6 or 7 in the morning or I go back to my house and watch movies or something. One day, I even went to swimming pool in Osaka with my co-workers. By the time we got there, it was 3 in the morning. I had so much fun though. Next day, I wake up around 4 pm, and I go to work again. So, I was making money during the summer vacation. I was doing it because I have something that I want to get. And it costs a lot of money. I am not writing what I want to get, because it is not a part of my summer vacation. I watched a lot of movies during the summer vacation. When I say a lot, it means A LOT. It was a part of our homework to watch movies, but I watched more movies than we had to. I even watched movies when I went back to my hometown.

Speaking of my hometown, I had great time in my hometown, Nagoya. I was hanging out with my friends, my family and my old friends. I really had a great time in my home town. My mother was doing great, my father was working hard as usual, I did not see my brother, my grandfather was still sick, my grandmother was doing great and my neighbors were still crazy. One day, I met my old girl friend by accident. She was hotter than I expected. I was very surprised when she told me that she got married with 35 years old rich guy.

Most of the time I was in my hometown, I was hanging out with my close friends. We talked about lives in universities, their new girl friends, and their club activities and so on. Some of them were already tired of being college students, some of them were enjoying being college students. One of my friends joined a motor cycle gang. I was wondering why he joined a motor cycle gang, even though he could not ride a bicycle until he became a high school student. Well, that is his life and it is none of my business.

My summer vacation was alright, I think. I was working hard in Hirakata. When I got exhausted, I went back to my hometown for a couple of days and hung out with my friends and see my family. Then I came back to Hirakata and make more money. It might sound boring, but I guess it was alright with me.

Layla

Today's blog is about my collections. My favorite CDs. I love collecting CDs. I often buy CDs when I get bored with my life. It is a great way to refresh myself. I just go to random CD store and buy random CDs. I never made any plans what I will buy. Here are some of my favorites.

This one is "Evil Empire" by Rage Against the Machine. Rage Against the Machine is one of my favorite band. I used be in a copy band of this band. Their music pump me up. So when you need to be pumped up for something, you should listen to their songs. Their song is played in the movie "Matrix" also.

Next one also pumps me up when I listen to this CD. "Quality Control" by Jurassic 5. Their music is more like hip-hop. However their songs are very easy to listen to compares to other hip-hop music.

The last one is the one of the best CDs in my collections. "Unplugged" by Eric Clapton. As you may know, He is the one of the great guitarists in the world. I went to his concert 6 months ago, and it was fantastic. I think this CD is his best one.

I haven't gone to a CD store for a while, since I don't have enough money to go buy CDs. I'm really missing it.

My hero.

I watched a movie a couple days ago.It is a new episode of one of my favorite movie. Yes, I watched the "Spiderman3."

The spiderman3 was really good. I was really looking forward to watching the movie, so I was very happy about it.

I found the awesome web site. I would like you to show you that, since I know you all love the Spiderman. Well, atleast Yuji does. It has the map of New York that shows us places which is involved with the movie. The website also tells us the story of the movie. If you haven't seen the movie, you should go check out the web site.

"amazing"place

I was doing some work for the presentation at school until about 8:30 with Akinori today. We were kind of frustrated since our work doesn't show any progresses.

So, after we got "kicked out" from the school, we went to an "amazing" place for supper. It's right in front of Kansai Gaidai. The place is called "Bikkuri ra-men."

We both had noodles and some other stuffs. It was really great. Not the best tho. For us students, price is everything as you know. At that place, we can have a noodle for 180 yen. That's pretty sweet for us.

We also found something interesting there. I hope I'm right. It might be like that on purpose. They might want to say that there is no "love" there or something like that. Got it?Well, who knows.

Time is money.

I'm broke....... I ain't got no money until 25th, my second pay day. That sucks. This is just because I had to buy all things I need to live by myself last month. I bought a bicycle, a light, and things I need for classes like text books. So this three days will be tough.

In other word, in three days, My life will be better. I was talking to Saki about what I should get with my paycheck. She said I should get a cell phone called "Wilcom". Well,I will think about that. I really want to get a new pair of shoes though. I also planning to go back to my hometown next month for a couple days, so I need some money for transportation, since that's not cheap.

One of my buddy told me that I should get a i-pod. That sounds great. I don't have MP3 player right now. I often carry CD player around.
Well, I will keep thinking about it until I make the decision. It is also true that I have to save some money for my future though.

Baby Hatch

Today I would like to talk about the "Baby Hatch." This is one of the biggest issues in the world today. I'll talk what is the baby hatch, then I would like to show you and discuss about two letters about the baby hatch. Those two letters have different point of view about a baby hatch.

A baby hatch is a place where mothers can bring their babies, usually newborn, and leave them anonymously in a safe place to be found and cared for. This kind of arrangement was common in mediaeval times and in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when the device was known as a foundling wheel. Foundling wheels were taken out of use in the late 1800s but a modern form, the baby hatch, began to be introduced again from 1996 and since 2000 has come into use in many countries, notably in Germany where there are around 80 hatches today. The hatches are usually in hospitals or social centres and consist of a door or flap in an outside wall which opens to reveal a soft bed, heated or at least insulated. Sensors in the bed alert carers when a baby has been put in it so that they can come and take care of the child. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_hatch

First, I want you to read a letter "Baby hatch is not the answer" by Krishna Haksar. She is completely disagree to the idea of the baby hatch. She says "finding a 3-year-old toddler on the first day of the facility's operation should be taken as a warning about the misguided compassion of this hospital and the city" She uses authority by telling us this fact. She also says that the answer for an wanted child is better-trained, scrutinized and well-paid government or private agency staff with a strong monitoring agency well-funded by tax money. She also uses authority by telling us different ways to solve this issue, which makes a lot of sense.

Next, I want you to read a letter "Baby hatch beats alternative" by Name Withheld. She says that it is a good idea when they cannot share their plight with anyone else. Then she gives us a example about a junior high school student and her boyfriend had a baby. They couldn't take care of the baby and the baby was abandoned in a nearby temple in cold weather and died. Her opinion is baby hatch is a great idea for people who cannot take care of their baby somehow and let babies die. She uses an authority by telling us this terrible fact. Which works very much.

Both opinions make sense very much that I can not say which idea is better than the other. However I agree with Name Withheld, the writer who wrote a second letter, who is agree to the idea of the baby hatch.I think it is a great thing to let the babies live and be taken cared by someone rather than let the babies die. The only problem is that people who can take care of their babies, abandoning their babies just because they do not want babies. To solve this problem, I think, the government should have more strict rules for using the baby hatch.

My dream.

One of my dreams will finally come true this Friday. The dream I had since long time ago. They are commin to Osaka this Friday!!

The band is called "The Red Hot Chili Peppers." They have been my favorite rock band for a long time. One of my dreams is to go to their concert. And my dream will come true this Friday. I still can not believe it! They were supposes to have a concert last March in Osaka, but the singer of the band got sick and they could not come to Japan. Me and my friend who also is a huge fan of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, got pissed off with it for few weeks. Finally, they will come to Osaka this Friday.

The red hot chili peppers is a really famous rock band in the world. They even appeared on the simpsons which is the one of most popular animation in the world. If you want to know about the band go to this site.
The bassist of the band in one of my heros. His name is Flea. He is an awsome bassist. Many famous bass player respect him and idolize him as a bassist. I'm so happy that I can finally see him on Friday. He can play so fast that we can not even see his right hand. One of his amazing teqnique is "Slapping."I'm practicing now, but he is too good to copy. How amazing is it? Watch this!

The singer of the red hot chili peppers writes great lyrics. That's another reason why I love this band so much. His name is Anthony Kiedis. His lyrics deal with a variety of topics such as his own experience, love, meaning of friendship, politics, drugs and so on. One of my favorite song is "Scar Tissue." The lyric is so sentimental and emotional. Listen.

What a great place.

This is one of my favorite places in Japan. I went to Kiyomizu-temple about 2 weeks ago with a friend of mine. It was such a gorgeous day as you can see, so I take a couple of pictures. It would have been better if there weren't that many people. Still, lovin' it.

TV commercial

Today I would like to talk about a television commercial, which you can see on Japanese TV. To tell the truth, I have never seen it on TV.

Before I start talking about it, just watch this.

Target Audience
Because this commercial is about a video game, This commercial is probably directed to young people, not to anyone.

And this is also directed to people who likes playing video games and thinking about getting a new video game. Because this "Wii" is a pretty new game system, not many people have this system. So This commercial is also directed to people who are thinking of getting "Wii".

In conclusion, This commercial is probably directed to young people who likes playing video games and thinking about getting a new video game or the game system "Wii".

Authority
The biggest authority in this commercial is probably the company name "CAPCOM" which is the one of the biggest video game company. It means we can trust them and trust their products.

Second, even though there are no famous actors or actresses in this commercial, The guy who is playing game in this commercial has a great life. He has a nice house, a big TV, and a girlfriend or could be a wife.

Finally, The title of this game which is " Resident Evil 4" could be the one of authorities in this. For example, If "Spiderman" and "Spiderman2" were really boring movies(they are actually great movies as you know) and weren't that good, would you go see "Spiderman3"? Or do they even make a new episode? So we can say that this Resident Evil series are well known and very popular video game.

Logic
This commercial is more like drama, shows just usual and real life in the beginning, and in the end, it goes to unreal world which is the story of this video game. But at the same time, this shows scenes in this game and how you play or use the controller.

Because this "Wii" has special type of controller, people might be wondering how to play this game and how you use the controller.

Also it shoes the scenes in this game which is very clear and realistic. So it is very easy for audience what is the game about and how you play this game.

So this commercial doesn't say anything about price or specific about this video game, but it shows actual scenes in this game and how you play this video game. These gives audience a clear idea of this product.

Emotion
Most of people are always want "dramas" in their life. And in this commercial, shows drama which is the story of this video game.

A man ,the main character, is playing the video game and his girlfriend or could be his wife sits beside him and he really gets into this game. Until this moment, it is a real world and could happen to anyone. Because he was really into playing this game, when he looked around he notices that his girlfriend wasn't beside him. From this moment, It goes to unreal world, a drama, which is the story of the product. In the end, after he saved her from the zombies, they hug each other, and in the background the same scene is happening on the TV screen.

So I think this commercial is saying that by playing this video game, you can experience this drama which is about action and love.

Evaluation
I think this commercial is very unique. And I liked it very much. Usual life goes to Unreal life. Even though the audience is not that many because the product is a video game ,but it is sure that they can attract and influence them so much by this commercial.

Also I thought it is very effective that they shows the actual scenes in this video game and shows how you play this game. I think these give audience a basic idea and a clear image of this product.

On a scale of 1-10, I would rate this commercial 9.

I gave 9 because, I think this commercial is very effective and for people who play video games are pretty sure that they will be influenced by this commercial.
